What's New in Orb 1.2

The more data update

Meaghan Bauman

Hot off the heels of the Orb 1.1 release, we're excited to launch Orb 1.2 with new metrics, designs & features to make Orb even better.

Here’s a full rundown of what’s new in Orb 1.2:

New Features

🎯 Improved Orb Score

We’ve refined how Reliability and Speed impact your Orb Score:

  • Reliability now only affects your score during true outages or disruptions, giving a more precise reflection of your experience.
  • The most recent speed test is now factored in—even if it happened before the currently viewed period.

You may notice a slight score decrease, but it’s a more accurate representation of your connection.

🎨 New Metrics & Card Designs

The Responsiveness, Reliability, and Speed cards have new designs and additional metrics to help you better understand your network performance:

⚡ New Responsiveness Card

New Responsiveness Card

Orb now reports detailed responsiveness metrics for device-to-router and router-to-internet, helping you pinpoint where performance issues originate.

  • Lag (+ average, best, worst for time period selected)
  • Latency
  • Jitter
  • Packet Loss

Web Load Time has been replaced with:

  • DNS Resolve Time
  • Time to First Byte (TTFB)

💎 New Reliability Card

New Reliability Card

Now easier to read and interpret with new metrics highlighting how much time your connection spends in each state:

  • Available
  • Responsive
  • Laggy
  • Unresponsive
  • Inactive

🏎️ New Speed Card

New Speed Card

Orb now shows average, best & worst values on the Speed Card.

⚙️ Content Speed Test Frequency

You can now change the frequency of content speed tests—or disable them entirely. Perfect for those looking to reduce data consumption or test less frequently without sacrificing visibility.

To change the setting, open the Orb detail view and expand the speed card. Use the drop down to select your preferred speed testing frequency.

Usability Improvements & Bug Fixes

  • Faster response when your network or connection type changes.
  • Custom Orb names now appear correctly when using the Orb Score share feature.
  • Fixed an issue where stale measurement data was not being cleared properly.
  • Windows: Resolved a bug where double-clicking Orb from the system tray froze the UI. Smooth sailing now.

Expanded Platform & Device Support

We’re serious about running Orb everywhere. Now including:

🤖 New Platform Support

  • arm_xscale (Linux)
  • Cortex-A72 (OpenWrt)
  • armv5-musl (Linux)
